Photographic Life List - Birds of North America : Out of interest in maintaining a life list, i decided to create a life list of bird species photographed in North America. So, on display is a collection of images copied from other galleries of mine (wild photographs only). 1 image selected per species. Not all of the images are the best quality, but such is the nature of pursuing nature photography. As i capture "better" shots, i may swap some images out...and certainly i will add any new species.

If you have any corrections to identifications made, please let me know! I have made every effort to ensure all images are accurately identified, and would certainly appreciate the opportunity to learn from any mistakes!

Currently there are 287 species listed. Most recent additions are:
Snow Goose (added September 25, 2008)
Ross's Goose (added September 28, 2008)
Gray Jay, Spruce Grouse (added October 6, 2008)
Curlew Sandpiper (added October 13, 2008)
Purple Finch (added October 31, 2008)
White-winged Crossbill (added November 24, 2008)
Bay-breasted Warbler (discovered in my archives)
Townsend's Warbler (discovered in my archives - San Francisco).

Birds : For me, birds are one of the more difficult subjects to photograph. The zoo is probably one of my favorite places to practice my bird photography. I can get fairly close without the birds getting too scared. I also like shooting at Santee Lakes. On occassion I get a lucky shot - like the hawk at Mission Trails Regional Park. All the birds in this gallery were shot in the 'wild'. For birds shot in captivity, see the Zoo Gallery.

Mostly Twigs : Welcome to Mostly Twigs!
Almost all of these pictures were taken in the wild or semi wild, parks and such. Birds that were going about their business and occasionally being curious about what the hell I was doing on their patch.
Because these shots are taken in the wild and my shooting style is one of hiking, stalking etc. it's sometimes difficult (but fun) to get set up for that perfect shot. Of course serendipity comes into play and is one of the big attractions of this kind of shooting.
I will sort things into sub galleries as soon as I figure out how to do that. In the mean time I will continue to add photos and text.
Enjoy.

Cheers
Bryan
